What should the sound say here? That is the first question. Whether it takes music, a voice, an atmosphere or silence is decided after that.
Whoever discusses the concept with me is also at the desk for the mix. Nothing passes through three departments, and a question does not take a week to answer.
The guitar took me to the United States: first Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, then Berklee College of Music in Boston. After that New York, marketing at the jazz label Verve at Universal Music. Ten years altogether. Back in Berlin I opened the studio in 2000, then as MainBerlin, today pangram audio.
It began with radio advertising, hundreds of spots: voice recording, music, atmospheres, sound effects. Theatre of the mind. Then came sound design, film music, voice recording with direction, mixing and mastering. For Coca-Cola, Samsung, Mercedes-Benz, DHL and John Deere, for rbb, for museums from Naumburg to Barcelona. In the room as well as in the stereo image: ambisonics, Dolby Atmos.
Depending on the project, regular collaborators come in. What a project needs is decided by the project, not by a team page.
Piano and drums. He plays lyrically, he plays free jazz, and he is house pianist at the Berliner Ensemble. When a piece should not sound like a sample library, he plays it.
Media production for film and visual formats. Short distances when picture and sound are made together.
For three years I have been working with schools in Berlin on podcasts. In 2026 that became Klassenstimme e.V., a non-profit association. What it does is on the podcast page.
